Onboard a new device

Connect a new endpoint so it appears under Devices and can use tunnels and other features.

Before you start

• Create or reuse a provisioning key that authorizes devices to join your organization.
• Know which device group the machine should belong to, if your team uses groups.

Step 1: Create a provisioning key

1. Go to Access → Provisioning keys.
2. Create a new key and set an expiration that fits your security policy.
3. Optionally restrict the key to a device group so new devices land in the right group automatically.
4. Copy the key once it is shown and store it securely. Treat it like a password.

Step 2: Install the Varco client on the device

Use your organization’s standard procedure to install the Varco agent or client on the machine. During setup, provide:

• The provisioning key
• Any server URL or tenant settings your administrator documented

Step 3: Confirm in the portal

1. Open Infrastructure → Devices.
2. Find the device by name or identifier.
3. Check status (online/offline) and last seen time to confirm registration succeeded.

Optional: move or group the device

• Assign the device to a device group from the device or group screens so tunnels and access rules apply consistently.

Tips

• Rotate provisioning keys on a schedule and revoke keys that are no longer needed.
• Use descriptive device names so operators can find machines quickly in search and reports.
